What issues need to be paid attention to when harvesting forage?

1. Silage feed must have moisture content. Generally, the moisture content of raw materials for making silage should be maintained at 65%-70%. If the moisture content is lower or higher than this, it will not be easy to silage. If the moisture content is high, add bran to absorb water; if the moisture content is low, add water.

2. Silage raw materials must have a certain sugar content. It is generally required that the sugar content of raw materials should not be less than 2%.

3. The silage process should be fast. Fast harvesting preserves the nutritional value of the feed. Use a baler to harvest forage quickly.

4. Use strong and durable bale net wrap and baler twine. UV protective agents need to be added to bale ropes and bale nets to extend storage time and prevent damage.

5. Compaction. When loading the cellar, be sure to use baling ropes or baling nets to compact the silage, try to expel the air in the material, do not ignore the corners, and create an anaerobic environment as much as possible.

For small farms, a baler can be used with a bale net wrap and a baler twine for baling, and then stacked in a high dry place for storage, which greatly reduces the cost and time of feed silage.
