Extend grazing time

Extending the grazing season is one of the best ways to save money on feed and reduce farm labor. In order to add grazing days to the calendar, farm managers must have a plan and be willing to be flexible with grazing. Rotational grazing, utilizing a variety of pasture species and growing seasons, considering stocking rates, adding fertility where needed, and having adequate fencing and water will increase your chances of success.

Whether you can afford to graze for a few more weeks or a few more months, the benefits of preparation will be reflected in the money you save harvesting or purchasing supplemental feed. No matter how diligent you are with your grazing plan, eventually you will rely on stored feed to meet your livestock's needs.
